One of the most famous Christmas stories came to us in poem form. Written by Clement Clarke Moore in 1822, this perennial favorite was originally entitled, “A Visit From Saint Nicholas.” This story of the first recorded times in literature that St. Nicholas was tied to the Santa Claus character. Many American families read these famous lines as a part of their family traditions.
“Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there…”
