Henry tells his readers, “The magi, as you know, were wise men--wonderfully wise men--who brought gifts to the Babe in the manger. They invented the art of giving Christmas presents.”
The art of this O. Henry short story is of a young couple, Della and Jim Dillingham Young, giving all they had for Christmas. Some would say Della and Jim ended up with nothing. We would say they ended up with everything that matters at Christmas time.
